Psalm 69:1-36

Chapter 69
For the director, upon lilies, for David. 1 Save me, God, for waters have come up to my soul. 2 I have sunk in a miry depth, and there is no standing. I have come into the depths of the waters, and a flood has swept me away. 3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail while waiting for my God. 4 Those who hate me without cause have multiplied beyond the hairs of my head; those who cut me off, my enemies of falsehood, which I did not plunder—then I will restore. 5 God, you know my foolishness, and my iniquities are not hidden from you. 6 Let not those who wait for you be ashamed because of me, Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be dishonored because of me, God of Israel. 7 For on your account I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face. 8 I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to the sons of my mother. 9 For the zeal of your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of your reproachers have fallen upon me. 10 And I wept with fasting for my soul, and it became a reproach to me. 11 And I wept in cultic fasting for my nephesh, and it was a reproach to me. 12 Those sitting in the gate speak against me, and I am the songs of the drinkers of strong drink. 13 But I am my prayer to you, LORD, at a time of favor. God, in the abundance of your mercy, answer me in the truth of your salvation. 14 Deliver me from the mud, and may I not sink; rescue me from my enemies and from the depths of the waters. 15 Do not sweep me away with a flood of waters, and do not let the abyss swallow me up, and do not let the mouth of its well close over me. 16 Answer me, LORD, for your lovingkindness is good; according to the multitude of your compassions, turn to me. Do not let floodwaters overflow me, do not let the Deep swallow me, and do not let the pit shut its mouth over me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am oppressed—answer me quickly! 18 Draw near to my soul and redeem it on account of my enemies; ransom me. 19 You know my reproach and my shame and my disgrace; they are all before you, my enemies. 20 Reproach has broken my heart, and I am gravely ill. I waited for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. 21 They gave me vinegar to drink in my thirst, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. 22 May their table before them become a snare, and what is for their peace a trap. 23 Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and let their loins continually totter. 24 Pour out your anger upon them, and let your burning wrath overtake them. 25 May their palace be desolate; may there not be a dweller in their tents. 26 For they pursue those whom you have struck, and they recount the pain of those you have slain. 27 Give iniquity upon their iniquity, and let them not come into your righteousness. 28 Let them be blotted out from the book of life and not be written with the righteous ones. 29 But I am poor and in pain—your salvation, O God, will exalt me. 30 I will praise God's name with a song and magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 And it will be better to the LORD than a bull, a horned calf that spreads hooves. 32 The humble shall see and rejoice, seekers of God; and your heart shall live. 33 For the LORD hears the poor, and he does not despise his prisoners. 34 Let heaven and earth, the seas and every creeping thing in them praise him. 35 For God will save Zion and will build the cities of Judah, and they will dwell there and inherit it. 36 And the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
